| Fitting external
mirrors to a Bentley Mk VI |
|
![]() |
![]() |
| The standard early
post-war cars did not have external rear-view mirrors from new. Perhaps there were fewer cars on the road in those days, but in today's traffic conditions good all round vision is essential. |
I managed to find
very nice period mirrors from our local MG specialist, Rolo Motors in
Randburg. These mirrors are suitable for door or wing mount. |

called in to supervise the fitting of the mirrors. |
Most owners mount the
mirrors on the wings, as it gives a nice period look. However, the further the mirror is away from the driver, the less you see in it. In view of this I opted for door mount. The front doors on this car open to the rear, so mounting the mirrors on the A-pillar would place it in the way of getting in and out of the car. The hardest part of this job is drilling holes in your pride and joy. It took three glasses of Cabernet Sauvignon before I was brave enough to attempt it! |

| Mounting the mirror
on the door lip where it closes over the door rubber eliminates the
need to remove the inner door panel and window. Once the bolt is cut short it is a perfect fit. |

| The end result looks
really good, and the mirrors are very effective. |
