Dynamo
Problems
The ignition
light suddenly started coming on intermittently,
indicating that the dynamo was not charging the battery.
I suspected either a loose wire, or a short, as all would be
fine at times, and then suddenly the light would come on.
The first thing I did was to check the dynamo. To do this
I removed the electric wires from the two terminals on
the dynamo, connected a wire across both, and
in turn connected that to a voltmeter.
This test indicated that the dynamo is indeed fully operational,
so I reconnected the terminals. It was then that I noticed that
one of the terminals seemed loose. I started the car, and by
fiddling with the terminal I was able to simulate the intermittent
operation of the dynamo as mentioned earlier.

In order to repair the terminals the dynamo had to come
out. While I had it out it made sense to send it off to an
auto electrician to have it serviced and cleaned. They
fitted modern, spade type terminals as the old
terminals would turn and become dislodged,
hence my initial problem.
The last time the dynamo was serviced was in 1968!

The new date stamp.
