House, De Hoek Country Hotel Photos: Lize Smith, Jeannette Saayman and KC Saayman |

On
Sunday morning, 24 July, we once again headed out into the countryside
to the scenic De Hoek country hotel located at the foot of the Magalliesberg mountain range. |
|
As
the name suggests, the Concours D’ Nonchalant is not a serious concours
event and the focus is more on the drive, the destination and spending time in the company of fellow enthusiasts. Cars are judged in categories for originality, presentation and general condition, but patina counts for a lot in a well used example, often scoring higher marks than a freshly restored vehicle. We encourage owners to use their cars, so we also have a trophy for the highest mileage done in the preceding year. |
|
The weather was
perfect with a clear blue African sky, a typical warm mid-winters day. Most of the cars arrived around mid morning, having to navigate a narrow wooden bridge! |

The impromptu appointed judges set about judging the cars, each responsible for a category. | |
In the meantime
members and guests enjoyed coffee and biscuits on the sunny veranda overlooking the lovely grounds of De Hoek. |
Once all the work was
done and all the coffee was drunk, we sat down to a most delicious lunch in the dining room at Stonebridge House, followed by the formalities of announcing the winners and presentation of certificates. |
All the winners
received a certificate presented by the BDC Gauteng regional chairman,
Clive Woolley. |
|
Lize received a bunch
of flowers for her involvement in making this event a success. She was responsible for the design of the certificates, amongst a host of other responsibilities. These events would be a disaster without a woman's touch! |
